A Unique and Rugged Roofing System
A standing seam metal roof offers Eastern Florida coastal homes and commercial facilities a strong and durable option without sacrificing the unique beauty of the standing seam. So named after the raised ribs & clips that connect metal panels together, the standing seam is ideal for humid climates thanks to its protective properties.
The advantages of standing seam metal roofing are many, and range from the sleek appearance to the toughness of the material used. Additionally, the seams—a potential entry point from moisture—are raised high enough above the roofing panel to help prevent water leakage. And since each panel is a single piece of metal running from the bottom of the roof to the top, there are fewer seams, and thus fewer weak points in the roofs overall structure.
There are typically two types of standing seam metal roofs:
- Snap-Locked – These panels are typically formed on-site (but can be pre-formed at a sheet metal shop or manufacturing facility). The seams between panels can be locked by simply snapping them together over stainless steel clips.
- Mechanically Seamed – These panels are similar to snap-locked sheets in that they can be manufactured to any specification. However, this type of metal roofing system requires a special seam locking tool that tightly adjoins the panels together.
Available in a variety of fabrication options, including metals such as coated steel, bare and painted aluminum, zinc, copper, and stainless steel, standing seam metal roofing is flexible enough to provide aesthetic options for nearly any taste. Coastal residences and facilities, however, may want to consider aluminum to avoid corrosion considering the high concentration of sea salt.
